INTRODUCTION

This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices for BEACON LIFE TRAINING CENTRE (hereinafter referred to as “BLTC”, “The Company”, “we”, “our”, “us”) It explains our practices for the collection, use, maintenance, protection, and disclosure of personal data that we may collect from our online visitors, users or donors (hereinafter referred to as “you”) when:

  1. Visit our website: https://www.bltc.org.my (hereinafter referred to as “the Website”), and/or
  2. Use any of our mobile or desktop applications (hereinafter referred to as “Applications”, and collectively with our website.

This Privacy Policy applies to personal data collected by our website. It applies only to personal data that we collect:

  1. On the Website.
  2. On any of the Applications, and/or
  3. Via electronic message between you and The Website (e.g. e-mail, text message, etc.).

This Privacy Policy does not apply to personal data collected by:

  1. Us offline.
  2. Through any other website operated by The Company or any third party (including our affiliates), or
  3. By any third party (including our affiliates) that may link to or be accessible via The Website.

This Privacy Policy will notify you of how we collect, use, share and protect your non-personally identifiable and personally identifiable information obtained through The Websites. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, you may not elect to use either The Website or any of the applications; if you do not agree with these policies and practices, you should immediately refrain from using the Website and you should remove and cease to use any of our applications. This Privacy Policy may change from time to time. Your continued use of The Website after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so please check back periodically for updates.

We do reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time and will post any changes here. By using our website, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy and all changes will be effective immediately upon posting.

By accessing and using the Website, you agree that you have read and understand this Privacy Statement and that you accept and consent to the privacy practices and uses or disclosures of information about you that are described herein.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We process the information you provide to us on the legal basis of The Company’s legitimate interests in providing the function or service you requested. We may rely on alternate legal bases where appropriate, such as your consent to certain types of processing, as described below.

  1. Account Information. We do not require you to register to use our website. However, if you do register an account, you will gain access to those areas and features of The Website that require registration. The Company will collect certain personal data about you in connection with your registration, which may include personal data and other information such as a username and password.
  2. Correspondence Information. If you apply for sign up, email us, subscribe to our newsletters, distributions, or mailing lists through The Website, we may keep your message, postal address, e-mail address, IP address, telephone number, notes/comments, areas of interest, source of referral, and contact information to respond to your requests, provide the requested services, and to provide notifications or other correspondences to you. If you do not want to receive communications from us in the future, please let us know by sending us an e-mail requesting the same to info@bltc.org.my or by following the unsubscribe instructions found in any email we send. If you supply us with your postal address on-line, you may receive periodic mailings from us with information on new products and services or upcoming events. If you do not wish to receive such mailings, please let us know by contacting us at info@bltc.org.my. Please note requests to remove your email address from our lists may take some time to fulfil.
  3. Support Information. You may provide personal data to us via a support request submitted through the website or via email to info@bltc.org.my. We will use this information to assist you with your support request and may maintain this information to assist you or other users with support requests. Please do not submit any personal data to us via a support submission, including confidential or sensitive information that you do not wish for the Organization or our service providers to have access to or use in the future in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.
  4. Form Information. We may use forms to request certain personal data from you on The Website, such as your contact information to assist with contacts or event applications. This information may include personal data.
  5. Donation Information. If you make a donation through a link on our website, we will request a personal data information (such as your name, address, phone number, mailing address). Credit card and other information you provide when making a donation is entered directly on our reputable third-party payment platforms, ToyyibPay (privacy policy Link), for the purpose of processing and recording gifts. We do not have access to your credit card information, and thus do not store it in our files. As you could read in their privacy policies, the mentioned platform do not disclose, share, rent or sell your information to other organizations. They do provide details to BLTC that we keep on file to thank you and keep you updated about our work. These details include as your name, the amount you donated and to which campaign or initiative, your email address, telephone number and mailing address.
    Unless you specify that a donation be “anonymous” or otherwise request that your name not be listed, we list the names of our donor in our website, brochures, and other materials to recognize the generosity of those who support BLTC. We do not sell or rent our donor lists to anyone. We also do not share your personal data with any third parties other than service providers we employ to perform functions on our behalf, such as sending postal mail and email, processing credit card payments, and organizing events specifically designed to keep you abreast of BLTC’s activities. The mentioned parties have access to Personal Data needed to perform their functions, but are not authorized to use it for any other purpose.

Depending on how you interact with BLTC (online, offline, over the phone, etc.), We collect various types of information from you, as described below.

  1. Personal contact information. This includes any personal data you provide to us that would allow us to contact you, such as your name, postal address, e-mail address, social network details, or phone number.
  2. Account login information. Any personal data that is required to give you access to your specific account profile. Examples include your login ID/email address, screen name, password in unrecoverable form, and/or security question and answer.
  3. Demographic information & interests. Any personal data that describes your demographic or behavioral characteristics. Examples include your date of birth, age or age range, gender, geographic location (e.g. postcode/zip code), favorite products, hobbies and interests, and household or lifestyle information.
  4. Information from computer/mobile device. Any personal data about the computer system or other technological device that you use to access one of our websites or apps, such as the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer or device to the Internet, operating system type, and web browser type and version. If you access BLTC website or app via a mobile device such as a smartphone, the collected information will also include, where permitted, your phone’s unique device ID, advertising ID, geo-location, and other similar mobile device data.
  5. Websites/communication usage information. As you navigate through and interact with our websites or newsletters, we use automatic data collection technologies to collect certain personal data about your actions. This includes information such as which links you click on, which pages or content you view and for how long, and other similar information and statistics about your interactions, such as content response times, download errors and length of visits to certain pages. This information is captured using automated technologies such as cookies and web beacons and is also collected through the use of third-party tracking for analytic and advertising purposes.
  6. Market research & consumer feedback. Any personal data that you voluntarily share with Us about your experience of using our products and services.
  7. Consumer-generated content. Any content that you create and then share with us on third party social networks or by uploading it to one of our websites or apps, including the use of third party social network apps such as Facebook or Instagram. Examples include photos, videos, personal stories, or other similar media or content. Where permitted, we collect and publish consumer-generated content in connection with a variety of activities, including contests and other promotions, website community features, consumer engagement, and third-party social networking.
  8. Third party social network information. Any personal data that you share publicly on a third party social network or information that is part of your profile on a third party social network (such as Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and that you allow the third party social network to share with us. Examples include your basic account information (e.g. name, email address, gender, birthday, current city, profile picture, user ID, list of friends, etc.) and any other additional information or activities that you permit the third party social network to share. We receive your third-party social network profile information (or parts of it) every time you download or interact with BLTC web application on a third-party social network every time you use a social networking feature that is integrated within a BLTC site or every time you interact with us through a third-party social network. To learn more about how your information from a third- party social network is obtained by BLTC, or to opt-out of sharing such social network information, please visit the website of the relevant third-party social network.
  9. Payment and Financial information. Any personal data that we need in order to fulfil an order, or that you use to make a purchase, such as your debit or credit card details (cardholder name, card number, expiration date, etc.) or other forms of payment (if such are made available). In any case, We or our payment processing provider(s) handle payment and financial information in a manner compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and security standards.
  10. Sensitive Personal Data. This includes personal data about your physical or mental health or condition and your religious beliefs. Where it becomes necessary to process your sensitive personal data for any reason, we rely on your prior express consent for any processing which is voluntary (e.g., for marketing purposes). If We process your sensitive personal data for other purposes, we rely on the following legal bases: (i) detection and prevention of crime (including the prevention of fraud); and (ii) compliance with applicable law (e.g., to comply with our diversity reporting).
  11. Photographs or Videos. This includes photographs or videos of you taken or recorded during BLTC on ground events.

USE OF YOUR INFORMATION

We collect and use your personal data, and the different types of personal data that are collected for each purpose. Please note that not all the uses below will be relevant to every individual.

  1. Consumer service. We use your personal data for consumer service purposes, including responding to your inquiries. This typically requires the use of certain personal contact information and personal data regarding the reason for your inquiry (e.g. order status, technical issue, product question/complaint, general question, etc.).
  2. Marketing and other promotions. With your consent (where required), we use your personal data to provide you with personal data about goods or services (e.g. marketing communications, campaigns, or promotions). This can be done via means such as email, ads, SMS, phone calls and postal mailings to the extent permitted by applicable laws. We may also disclose your name, photographs or videos in public when you participate in a campaign, event or contest in on ground events. Some of our campaigns and promotions are run-on third-party websites and/or social networks. Use of your personal data is voluntary, which means that you can oppose (or withdraw your consent) to the processing of your information for this purpose.
  3. Third party social networks. We use your personal data when you interact with third party social networking features, such as “Like” functions, to serve you with advertisements and engage with you on third party social networks. You can learn more about how these features work, the profile data that we obtain about you, and find out how to opt out by reviewing the privacy notices of the relevant third-party social networks.
  4. Personalization. With your consent (where required), we use your personal data for:
    1. to analyze your preferences and habits,
    2. to anticipate your needs based on our analysis of your profile,
    3. to improve and personalize your experience on our websites and apps,
    4. to ensure that content from our websites/apps is optimized for you and for your computer or device,
    5. to provide you with targeted advertising and content, and
    6. to allow you to participate in interactive features when you choose to do so. For example, we remember your login ID/email address or screen name so that you can quickly login the next time you visit our site or so that you can easily retrieve the items you previously placed in your shopping cart. Based on this type of information, and with your consent (where required), We also show you specific BLTC content or promotions that are tailored to your interests. The use of your personal data is voluntary, which means that you can oppose the processing of your information for this purpose.
    7. Order fulfillment. We use your personal data to process and ship your orders, inform you about the status of your orders, correct addresses and conduct identity verification and other fraud detection activities. This involves the use of certain information and payment information.
    8. Other general purposes (e.g. internal or market research, analytic, security). In accordance with applicable laws, we use your personal data for other general business purposes, such as maintaining your account, conducting internal or market research and measuring the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. We reserve the right, to use your information for management and operation of our communications, IT and security systems.

We may disclose aggregated information about any user of or visitor to the website, including information that does not identify any individual, without restriction. We will not share, sell, rent, or otherwise disclose your private personal data to third parties without your consent or another valid legal basis permitted by law.

The Company will share your personal data in the following circumstances on the legal basis of the legitimate interests of providing the requested Services:

  1. Subsidiaries, Affiliates, and Personnel. We may share the information within the Company and to our subsidiaries and affiliates. The Company’s personnel may have access to your personal data as needed to provide and operate the website in the normal course of business. This includes information regarding your use and interaction with the platform.
  2. Service Providers. The Company works with various individuals, organizations, contractors, vendors, including for the performance of hosting, providing analytic, performing research, undergoing development on the website, and engaging in social media services, as well as to other third parties as we determine necessary to support our business, including to students, teachers, alumni, and mentors who may or may not be on the website. These third parties have only limited access to your personal data and may use your information only to perform these tasks on our behalf. Information we share with our service provider may include both information you provide to us and information we collect about you, including personal data and information from data collection tools like cookies, web beacons, and log files. We share personal data with our service provider on the legal basis of the Company’s legitimate interests in providing you with The Website. Our engagement of Service providers is often necessary for us to provide The Website to you, particularly where such companies play important roles like helping us keep our platform operating and secure. In some other cases, these service providers aren’t strictly necessary for us to provide The Website, but help us make it better, like by helping us conduct research into how we could better serve our users. In these latter cases, we have a legitimate interest in working with service providers to make our website better.
  3. Business Transactions. The Company may purchase other businesses or their assets, sell our business assets, or be involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets. Your personal data, including personal data, may be among assets sold or transferred as part of a Business Transaction.
  4. Lawful Requests. We may be required to disclose website user personal data pursuant to lawful requests such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws. We generally do not disclose user information unless we have a good faith belief that an information request by law enforcement or private litigants meets applicable legal standards. We may share your information when we believe it is necessary to comply with applicable laws, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity perpetrated through the website or using The Company name, or to protect the safety of any person. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, agents, or government agencies. Nothing in this Privacy Policy is intended to limit any legal defenses or objections that you may have to a third party, including a government’s request to disclose your personal data.

We use appropriate measures (described below) to keep your personal data confidential and secure. Please note, however, that these protections do not apply to information you choose to share in public areas such as third-party social networks.

  1. People who can access your Personal Data. Your personal data will be processed by our authorized staff or agents, on a need to know basis, depending on the specific purposes for which your information has been collected.
  2. Measures taken in operating environments. We store your personal data in operating environments that use reasonable security measures to prevent unauthorized access. We follow reasonable standards to protect personal data. The transmission of information via the Internet is, unfortunately, not completely secure and although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of the data during transmission through our websites/apps.
  3. Measures we expect you to take. It is important that you also play a role in keeping your personal Data safe and secure. When signing up for an online account, please be sure to choose an account password that would be difficult for others to guess and never reveal your password to anyone else. You are responsible for keeping this password confidential and for any use of your account. If you use a shared or public computer, never choose to have your login ID/email address or password remembered and make sure to log out of your account every time you leave the computer. You should also make use of any privacy settings or controls we provide you in our website/app.
SECURITY AND RETENTION OF PERSONAL DATA

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures designed to assist in maintaining the security and confidentiality of personal data; safeguarding against anticipated threats to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of personal data; and protecting your personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, and unauthorized disclosure or access. We also regularly audit our systems for possible vulnerabilities and attacks. With respect to payment card information, our technical and organizational measures include all applicable security requirements in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard in Malaysia.

However, whenever personal data is processed, there is a risk that such data could be lost, misused, modified, hacked, breached and/or otherwise accessed by an unauthorized third party. No system or online transmission of data is completely secure. In addition to the technical and organizational measures that Children International has in place to protect your personal data, you should use appropriate security measures to protect your personal data, including protecting the security of your log in information and credentials. CHILDREN POLICY

This website is only intended for use by those who have reached the legal age of 18 and older. By using our website, you are affirming that you are at least 18 years old. BLTC does not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 18. As noted in BLTC’s Terms of Use, by signing up for a user account or by using the Website, users certify that they are 18 years of age or older. If you believe that a child under the age of 18 has provided information to the Website, please notify BLTC at info@bltc.org.my. We are not liable for any damages that may result from the user’s misrepresentation of age.

If you are a parent or guardian and become aware that a child for which you are responsible has provided us with personal information without your consent, please let us know at info@bltc.org.my and we will remove their information from our files.

 

DONOR PRIVACY STATEMENT

BLTC is committed to protecting our donors’ privacy. Our donors expect that we will use their support wisely. They also place their trust in us concerning the personal information that they may share with their gifts. We value our donors’ trust and we recognize that maintaining this trust requires us to be transparent and accountable to our supporters and the public. An organization that deals with individuals and information about individuals in its daily operations and fundraising activities must secure that information.

We maintain all records of donations to BLTC according to the applicable standards for record retention in effect at the time of the donation. All records are maintained in a secure location.

BLTC uses the information it collects for its own purposes. We do not share or sell donor’s information, except we may share information with partners to perform work on our behalf. Our partners do not share or sell any information received from us and only use this information to provide their services. This applies to all donor information, received online and offline.

We will not send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations. In exceptional circumstances, we may be required to disclose information due to a legal requirement, for grant applications and to prevent unauthorized bank credit or debit card transactions.

BLTC does on occasion acknowledge donors by name and/or description of donation, after the donors have given permission for such use. From time to time, it may be necessary for BLTC to change its privacy policy.

 

YOUR RIGHTS

The Company seeks to ensure all individuals are provided with the rights mandated by their governing jurisdiction. Not all the rights discussed herein will apply to each individual data subject and may not apply to you depending upon your jurisdiction.

You may benefit from several rights in relation to your information that we process. Some rights apply only in certain limited cases, depending on your location. If you would like to manage, change, limit, or delete your personal information, you can do so by contacting us. Upon request, The Company will provide you with information about whether we hold any of your personal information. In certain cases where we process your information, you may also have a right to restrict or limit the ways in which we use your personal information. In certain circumstances, you also have the right to request the deletion of your personal information, and to obtain a copy of your personal information in an easily accessible format.

If we process your information based on our legitimate interests as explained in this Privacy Policy, or in the public interest, you can object to this processing in certain circumstances. In such cases, we will cease processing your information unless we have compelling legitimate grounds to continue processing or where it is needed for legal reasons. Where we use your data for direct marketing purposes, you can always object using the unsubscribe link in such communications or changing your account settings if you have registered for a website account. However, please note you may not opt-out of Platform-related communications, such as account verification, changes, or updates to features of The Website, or technical and security notice.

Where you have provided consent to certain data processing, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time by contacting The Company at: info@bltc.org.my. A withdrawal of consent will not affect the validity of our use of your personal data up until the point you have withdrawn your consent.

The Company welcomes you to contact us regarding the information we have collected about you, including regarding the nature and accuracy of the data that has been collected about you, to request an update, modification, or deletion of your information, to opt-out of certain website uses of your information, or to withdraw any consent you may have granted to The Company. You can change, correct, request the deletion or removal of, and express any concerns relating to the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information by emailing info@bltc.org.my. We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect.

We may retain the information we receive about you for as long as necessary to fulfil our contractual and legal obligations, consistent with our data retention schedules, or indefinitely, but information generally will be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which the information was collected, or as otherwise required by law. In addition, we may delete your personal data from our systems as part of a data retention plan. Following termination or deactivation of a website account, The Company may retain your information and content for a commercially reasonable time for backup, archival, and audit purposes.

Please note requests to delete or remove your information do not necessarily ensure complete or comprehensive removal of the content or information posted and removed information may persist in backup copies indefinitely. Please note that if you choose to delete your information or opt-out of the collection and use of your information, you understand that certain features, including but not limited to access to the website, may no longer be available to you.

You also have the right to ask to see what information we hold about you, and what we are doing with it. This is known as a Subject Access Request and must be made in writing to info@bltc.org.my.

You also have a right to request your information in a format which supports its portability. Please contact info@bltc.org.my should you wish to exercise this right.

 

CHANGE TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

It is our practice to post any changes we make to our Privacy Policy on this page. If we make material changes to how we treat our users’ personal information, we will notify you through a notice on the website. The date the Privacy Policy was last revised is identified at the top of the page. You are responsible for ensuring we have an up-to-date active and deliverable email address for you, and for periodically visiting our website and this Privacy Policy to check for any changes.
